The intestinal organoids of crab-eating monkeys are derived from the intestinal crypt stem cells of the small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, ileum) or colon.The crab-eating monkey (Macaca fascicularis) is one of the closest experimental animals to human evolution. Its intestine is highly conserved with humans in terms of anatomy, cell composition, and physiological function.The intestinal epithelium is composed of absorbent cells (enterocytes), goblet cells (goblet cells), Paneth cells, enteroendocrine cells (EECs) and tuft cells (tuft cells), which have nutrient absorption, barrier defense and endocrine functions.In 2018, Onozato et al. derived intestinal organoids from crab-eating monkey iPSC for the first time, and confirmed that they have pharmacokinetic functions.In 2020-2021, Inaba et al. established intestinal organoids from the intestinal tissue of adult macaques for the first time and maintained the culture for more than 6 months.The taste-like chemosensory cells (chemosensory cells) of monkey intestinal organoids are functionally closer to humans than rodents.
