Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignant tumor of the head and neck, accounting for more than 90% of oral malignancies, and there are more than 370,000 new cases and about 188,000 deaths worldwide every year.OSCC mainly occurs in the tongue, cheek mucosa, gums and bottom of the mouth.OSCC organoids are derived from OSCC tissue surgically removed or biopsied, retaining the histopathological characteristics, gene mutation profile and drug response of the primary tumor.Wang et al. (2024) established a living biobank containing organoids of origin from 46 OSCC patients, with a success rate of more than 95%.Driehuis et al. (2019) established for the first time the head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) organoid, including tumors of oral, oropharyngeal, laryngeal, and hypopharyngeal origin.OSCC organoids can be used to study tumor heterogeneity, chemotherapy resistance mechanisms, and develop new treatment strategies.
