Human Nasal Mucosa Organoids (Human Nasal Mucosa Organoids) are derived from nasal mucosa tissue, mainly from brushing samples of the middle or lower turbinate, nasal polyps, or ethmoid sinus mucosa obtained during functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS).The nasal mucosa is an important part of the respiratory epithelium. It is composed of false-coated ciliated columnar epithelium and contains basal cells (KRT5+/TP63+), ciliated cells (FOXJ1+/acetylated tubulin+), cup-shaped cells (MUC5AC+/MUC5B+) and club cells.The nasal mucosa organoids retain the cell composition and functional characteristics of the nasal mucosa in the body, including the removal function of mucous cilia and the formation of tight connections.Nasal mucosal organoids can be used as models for upper respiratory tract infections (such as influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2), and are also an ideal platform for the study of chronic sinusitis (CRS) and nasal diseases.Wang et al. (2022) established a biobank of recurrent nasopharyngeal cancer and nasal mucosal organoids, and the success rate of nasal mucosal organoids was 86.5%.
