Mouse tongue organs are derived from Lgr5+ stem cells from the contour papillae (CVP) and foliate papillae (FoP) on the back of the tongue of mice.These Lgr5+cells are located at the base of the taste epithelium and have two-way differentiation potential-they can generate taste receptor cells and non-taste epithelial cells.Tongue organs contain multiple layers of epithelium, including taste cells (expressing K8) and non-taste squamous epithelial cells.Mouse tongue organoid culture is an important in vitro model for studying taste phylogeny, taste cell renewal and taste disorders.Taste cells account for about 50-100 of the taste buds and are divided into four types (types I-IV).
