Human tongue cancer organoids are derived from surgical resection or biopsy tissue of patients with tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC).Tongue cancer is one of the most common subtypes of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), accounting for about 25-40% of oral cancer.Tongue cancer organoids retain the molecular characteristics of the primary tumor, including TP53 mutations, EGFR overexpression, PIK3CA mutations and other common driver mutations.According to a study by Sase et al. (2025), tongue cancer organoids (TCOs) can reproduce the characteristics of chemotherapy resistance and micro-residual disease (MRD), showing heritable diapause-like characteristics and activation of autophagy and cholesterol biosynthesis pathways.Tongue cancer organoids can be used to study cisplatin resistance, tumor heterogeneity, and personalized treatment strategies.
